How would I know which Lanoguard product I need?
On every one of our bottles you will see there are four icons which should clearly show which product meets your needs. But, for a guide, if it's harsh environments, salt or marine for example, choose the Marine range. If it's general protection and you want to protect wood as well as metal then choose the Outdoor range. Outdoor is suitable for fabrics, woods and leathers too, whereas the Marine range are not. If you have a car, quad bike, a caravan or something with a chassis to protect, seal and stop seizing, then select the Auto/Moto range.
How long does Lanoguard last?
Given these factors we state it lasts between 9-18 months however for almost all use cases it lasts a year. That being said, due to the simple application process there’s no harm in doing an Autumn & Spring application!
What colour is Lanoguard?
Looking in the bottle Lanoguard spray is almost translucent but is an off brown/ green colour to look at.
Lanoguard greases are somewhere between mid brown and dark green depending on the product. With some variation due to natural occurrences.
Some users will place a colour underneath Lanoguard first if aesthetics are of importance too.
Is Lanoguard safe to handle?
The contents, the bottle, and the overall solution is a safe product to handle and to use, and it does not present any issues if you are carrying out a safety risk assessment. It is also non-harmful to animals or the environment.
Does Lanoguard help to protect from UV?
Yes, it has natural properties which will help protect the surface and materials you use it on from the UV of the sun.
Is Lanoguard an eco-friendly product?
Lanoguard is eco-friendly and has green non-hazardous certifications. It does not require special handling, protective clothing or disposable gloves, which all add to the carbon footprint of utilising a product that is hazardous. The primary ingredient of Lanoguard is Lanolin which is a very ecologically safe and sound base. In fact, an entire dam in New Zealand was moved down river on a base of Lanoguard marine grease which shows you how the river authority was not concerned about any toxins that would be left as a result.
Does Lanoguard stop galvanic corrosion?
Yes. Due to Lanoguard being non conductive and it creating a hermetic seal, galvanic corrosion can not take place. Hence cold welding can’t either. This is a great use for Lanoguard.
How much Lanoguard is needed to cover my underbody?
The general rule of thumb is that a little Lanoguard goes a long way. Our Underbody Chassis kit should be more than enough for most underbody applications – 1.5L of moto spray being the typical quantity used per application.
Why is the Grease needed in the Underbody Chassis Kit?
Can I heat the grease products up more than once?
Yes, the grease products can be heated up and cooled down as many times as you need. It won't alter the properties and on a very cold day, it may well be that you prefer to heat it up a couple of times whilst applying it.
Can Lanoguard be used over surface rust?
In time it will slowly push off the oxidation, which is a nice aesthetics side benefit. It is important to remove any flaking or unstable surface rust, but regular surface oxidation is absolutely fine.
Can Lanoguard be sprayed on a wet surface?
Whilst Lanoguard can be sprayed on a wet surface, this could potentially impact the effectiveness of the product. As such we always recommend leaving a wet surface to dry before beginning application for optimal results.
How is Lanoguard made?
Lanoguard gets its name from lano as in lanolin and guard as in protection. It is made from the oils of the fleece of sheep. The oils are extracted using a scouring process. Lanoguard uses a high-grade lanolin which goes through testing to ensure we get the consistency and the quality of that lanolin. The unique thing about our manufacturing process is that not only are we using high-grade lanolin, we are also using what we call the cleaner part of hydrocarbons and we are developing more and more plant and bio derived solutions for the sprays too.
Lots of hydrocarbons are quite toxic or an irritant. What we use are not. So, with the cleaner and greener approach of it all, that allows us to be non toxic and marine ecology friendly. And we’re driving to be more and more so as we evolve our R & D. Crucially we have evolved and developed a unique blending process which allows us to blend more lanolin and a specific type of lanolin into the products, which is a very good thing and quite a difference to our competitors.
What preparation do I need to do before I apply Lanoguard?
All Lanoguard products are able to resist jet washing to 200 bar/3000 psi. Therefore when applying Lanoguard, it is advisable to ensure whatever you want to protect is clean first so that if you jetwash the item later, it will come up clean again. If aesthetics are not important, then the preparation is minimal. Just remove loose rust or flakes and any grease or oil if possible. Then, just spray Lanoguard on the item you wish to treat and wipe away any access with a cloth.
How do I clean off or remove Lanoguard?
There are two ways to remove Lanoguard. You can use a citrus based cleaner which we can supply in our shop or you can steam clean it off. Otherwise it will stay in place doing its job, no matter what it experiences!
Will Lanoguard prevent cold welding on stainless steel?
Lanoguard will prevent cold welding of stainless steel. It does this by preventing the surfaces from coming into contact with each other. It will act as a cold weld prevention barrier, anti corrosion and anti seize agent.

How can I use the moto range for Motorbike Maintenance?
- Do not apply on brake discs or brake pads, as the product is a lubricant and low friction.
- The spray can be used to protect all the electrics and wiring looms from water and weather ingress
- We would not recommend using it on the switch gear (indicator and headlight switches etc.) as it will be slightly greasy to the touch for a while. (Although a light spray on switch gear could help lubricate the inner workings and prevent the workings from corrosion damage , just need to wipe off excess spray around the switchgear)
- It won’t perish rubber or seals so it’s ok to spray around forks and shocks etc.
- Applying it is as simple as Spray on and wipe off any excess with a cloth or spray into a cloth and wipe over the parts to protect , no prep is needed although applying when the bike is clean is ideal
